Liverpool 5K Team Challenge
Preparation for the Liverpool Chamber 5K Team Challenge at 10.00am on 21st September is well underway, with organisers having secured major sponsorship from local companies, including recruitment specialist Adecco and Ray Ross Print Factory. The sponsorship is already being well spent, with Adecco providing running numbers, whilst Ray Ross has contributed towards printed advertising for the race.
Only a few weeks away, Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is to be a beneficiary on the day.
The profile of the race is growing by the day, with the sponsors keen to be a part of the event. “The 5K is one of the biggest events in the city’s calendar this year” said David Wafer of Adecco. “We are delighted to be a part of the preparations as the race returns to the city centre, particularly in light of our close links to businesses in the area, and the emphasis the race places on entering teams from businesses”.
Ray Ross, of Ray Ross Print Factory, shares Mr Wafer’s enthusiasm, and highlights the charitable benefits of the race. “The 5k is a great, fun way in which to raise money” he said. “Since we had the facilities here to provide the printed advertising we felt sponsorship would be an excellent, direct way to contribute to the race”.
The 5k looks set to make a grand return to the city centre, with organisers expecting at least 2000 runners, an increase of 1000 from when the event was held at Croxteth Park last year. Alan Rothwell, of race organisers Run Liverpool, points out that the race always enjoyed high numbers of entries before its move to Croxteth Park; “The park’s narrow paths necessitated a lower number of participants, since logistics meant that fewer competitors could run safely around such a narrow course”.
Happily the new route along the city’s waterfront promises no such limitations. Already entries are starting to pour in, and Alan expressed his delight at the number of early applications received so far, especially in the category of charity, family and friends. He urged people not to hesitate to enter the race, calling it “an ideal introduction to running. It’s about participation rather than competition, and racing as a team rather than individually”.
