Kris Donaldson, Marketing and Commercial Director, gave us a sneak preview of the 2008 Events programme before the official press conference to announce the plans to the world on Thursday. Using an interesting and artistic wall calendar he illustrated what will be going on and when. His enthusiasm infiltrated the audience, and everyone was impressed with the plans so far.

Next Fiona Doorey, Arts and Business Manager, spoke about the ‘Look of the City’ project, which is branding the whole city for the duration of 2008. A fantastic fly through video clip wowed the viewers with its visionary impressions of how the city will look.

Finally Gaynor Wright, told us of the Opening Ceremony campaign which will start on 11th January 2008. Her passion and excitement was evident as she reeled off all the diverse events due to take place.

This event had to switch venue when unfortunately the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall was flooded on the Friday afternoon. The Liverpool Science Park came to our help at the 11th hour and let us use their conference room. gary

Gary Millar very kindly allowed us to display artwork he commissioned for the Claire’s House £50 Charity Challenge. We had the privilege to exhibit an Anthony Brown 100 Heads original piece.

quartetThe Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra string quartet entertained guests as they networked and enjoyed the art.

A questionnaire was given out at the end of the event and the feedback was overwhelming. The Liverpool Culture Company gave us 800th Birthday Commemorative coins to hand out to those who filled in the questionnaire.

From the audience of 100, 98% felt better informed about Liverpool Capital of Culture, are now excited about 2008, and believe Liverpool will have a successful year. Here is a sample of some of the feedback we received:

“I am exceedingly encouraged by this evening's presentation of Year of 08. Now I feel I can shout from the rooftops how great the year will be.”

“There will be a renewed vigour and creative input into the city. New opportunities will arise due to Liverpool's raised profile nationally. And there are lots of opportunities to promote ourselves and join in activities.”

“There are lots of opportunities for local business to help with the preparations.”

"It was so informative and I really enjoyed it. The news for the Capital of Culture year and how Liverpool look and perform for that year looks absolutely stupendous. The speakers oozed enthusiasm and presented their information brilliantly."

The Metropolitan Cathedral kindly gave everyone who attended a voucher for a free drink at the new Piazza café.
