Global recognition for city buildings
The Bluecoat and the ACC Liverpool have been shortlisted in two categories – old and new, and production, which includes business parks, factories and exhibition complexes. These two Liverpool buildings have made the shortlist for the first ever World Architecture Festival Awards, a three-day event being held in Barcelona in October to celebrate architectural excellence over the last 18 months.

ACC looks to build on great start
ACC Liverpool, the city’s concert and conference centre at Kings Waterfront, will inject £160m into the city’s economy in its first financial year. Estimates say that an additional £3m has been spent in Liverpool each week since the centre opened in January.

Free three-month trial providing access to thousands of public sector contracts
More than 87,500 contracts have been advertised on the Supply2Gov website since it launched two years ago, specifically aimed at small businesses that want to tender for contracts worth up to £100,000. The free trial is proving popular with small businesses, with 86% of new registrants employing fewer than 20 employees.

An award scheme to encourage businesses to commission works of art from Merseyside’s creative talent has been launched to recognise and encourage patronage of the arts in Liverpool. The Chamber, which says it wants to use the momentum of 2008’s cultural festivities to encourage businesses to engage with the arts.

Who said there’s no money in art? A report commissioned by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) and Tate Liverpool has revealed that the Turner Prize 2007 generated over £10m for the Merseyside economy.

Liverpool is still doing business!
Liverpool is highly-rated as a business destination, according to the biggest ever independent survey of city businesses. The Foundations for Growth survey 2008 found that 64% of the 1500 companies who responded said that Liverpool was a good place in which to do business, with 27% giving it the top 5 out of 5 rating.

St George's Hall in the running to win a National Lottery Award
Liverpool’s St George’s Hall has reached the semi-finals of The National Lottery Awards 2008. The legendary building will now battle it out with a host of other Lottery-funded projects from across the UK for the chance to win £2,000 to spend on their project and the opportunity to star in a special prime-time BBC1 TV show.
